West Valley City is a city in Salt Lake County and a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. The population was 140,230 at the 2020 census, making it the second-most populous city in Utah after Salt Lake City. The city incorporated in 1980 from a large, quickly growing unincorporated area, combining the four communities of Granger, Hunter, Chesterfield, and Redwood. It is home to the Maverik Center and Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre.
Maverik Center
Maverik Center opened its doors to the Salt Lake Valley September 22, 1997. Designed by the world's premiere arena architect, Populous (formerly HOK Sport), Maverik Center is the home of the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies. Maverik Center gained international acclaim and exposure as the host venue for the Ice Hockey Championships at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Maverik Center combines the modern amenities of a large arena with the service and intimacy of a small theater. Within Maverik Center is a unique theater configuration which can accommodate audiences as small as 3,700, while a crowd of 12,000 can be just as comfortable in the main arena.
In addition to sporting events, Maverik Center is a leading entertainment venue hosting nationally known concert acts such as Elton John, Neil Diamond, Mannheim Steamroller, Carrie Underwood, Justin Beiber, Tool, Linkin Park and many more. The Maverik Center has also been home to family shows such as Sesame Street Live, The Wiggles, Bob the Builder, Dragon Tales Live, Arenacross and nationally televised productions of Holiday Festival on Ice and World Wrestling Entertainment's Smackdown Live.
Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater
The Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre is an outdoor amphitheater, located in West Valley City. It offers a view of the Wasatch Mountains. The venue opened July 2003.
Phish performed and recorded their show, on July 15, 2003, which was later released as a live album, entitled Live Phish 07.15.03.
Past performers have included The Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy, Shania Twian, Willie Nelson and Matchbox Twenty. 2024 Concerts
The amphitheater has also played host to music festivals.

The city lies in the Granite School District. It has 21 elementary schools, four junior high schools, and two high schools - Granger Senior High, which opened in 1958, and Hunter, which opened in 1990. The city also contains multiple charter schools: East Hollywood High School, a charter school specializing in film education; American Preparatory Academy; and Monticello Academy.
